Are You Prepared for F.S. 112.1816 (Firefighters’ Cancer Provision)?

According to Florida law, the employer must provide these benefits for ten (10) years after the firefighter’s retirement as long as the retiree remains on the employer’s health plan.

J.O. Services has put together a plan to cover both these risks using Beazley Supplemental Medical Expense (Gap) and Critical Illness insurance. It’s easy to get a quote and get coverage for eligible employees.
The Gap insurance helps guard employees against the financial risks associated with paying out-of-pocket medical expenses, enabling them to fill gaps and protect their income and assets. The Critical Illness policy provides a lump sum payment upon an invasive cancer diagnosis1. Together, these insurance plans can help provide financial protection and peace of mind for employees and their families.

The Issue:

Florida Senate Bill 426
(Firefighters Cancer Bill)

1) Active firefighters who have been employed full-time for at least 5 years. 2) Retired firefighters who have elected to remain on the group health plan for 10 years following their retirement. It requires: 1) The employer to reimburse the firefighter for any out-of-pocket deductible, copayment, or coinsurance costs incurred due to the treatment of cancer. 2) A one-time cash payment of $25,000 upon the firefighter’s initial diagnosis of cancer. The Solution:

Florida Firefighters’ Cancer Program was developed to cover both the initial $25,000 payment to the Firefighter upon cancer diagnosis, as well as cover the ongoing out-of-pocket expenses associated with treatment of the cancer.

Plan A: The Supplemental Medical Expense (Gap) Policy underwritten by Beazley would be used to reimburse the affected firefighter for deductibles, co-payments and coinsurance associated with treatment, as required by the statute.

Plan B: The Critical Illness policy underwritten by Beazley will pay the required $25,000 lump-sum benefit upon diagnosis of cancer, as required by Statute.

J.O. Services Firefighters’ Cancer Provision meets your legal requirements and solves your risk now and into the future!
